What Is an Election Judge
An election judge helps to oversee and monitor his or hers precinct polling location on Election Day.
Salary
A judge of election is paid $100 for serving on Election Day (6 am – 7 pm). In addition, the judge will receive an extra $50 for each election if he or she has successfully attended the required training sessions. Extra compensation is also paid to election judges who return election materials at night.
Qualifications to be an Election Judge
To qualify an applicant must:
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Be a registered voter in Cook County.
• Be of good repute and character.
• Be able to speak, read and write the English language.
• Be skilled in the four fundamentals of arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
• Be of good understanding and capable.
• Not be a candidate for any office at the election, or
• Not be a precinct captain.
